Recently my wee cb-1 failed its MOT. (Awww) amongst other things my chain was too tight. To be honest I haven't touched it other than oiling it since I bought it nearly 2 yrs ago...however on closer inspection and thanks to the eagle eye of gowdy on the last wee blast to largs the inside of my rear sprocket was buffed right down to shiny metal. When mechanic had a look my rear wheel was actually sitting at an angle again something I never noticed. Anyone ever come across this before and do you think this could have been caused by the chain being over tightened by previous owner?

I think it's been a combination of the chain being too tight and the wheel being misaligned. Hovever, I think we'd have picked up on the chain being too tight when we noticed the sprocket wear. My guess is that's not your problem although the misalignment has caused they wear I think you need to look at your rear shock. Your rear suspension seemed very soft. So when checking your chain tension with nobody on the bike it may have seemed ok but when you sit on it the suspension drops and the swing arm pivots which will put more strain on the chain.
Once you get a new chain a sprocket kit - CLICK EBAY -£75 it's easy enough to set it up straight etc but I'd adjust your rear shock so it's stiffer to reduce the travel first then tension the chain properly.
The rest of the stuff for the MOT can be fixed at no cost.

Out of curiosity, did you hear any strange rattling, crunching noises when riding? Did the bike seem snatchy at all with the tight chain?
