Pre season tidy up..

Post by G-force on Thu 27 Jan - 3:32

Well the Bandit's seen two tough winters and its starting to show. So, it's time for a wee bit of TLC before this years season starts.
So far, I've removed the heel plates, footpegs, Pillion peg hangers, exhaust, grab rail and rack, and torque arm. It's looking kinda bare!
The plan is corrosion removal and repainting/powder coating. Also have a belly pan to paint and fit.
Looking forward to the end result..Have any of you got any tricks up your sleeve worth sharing?
Any pointers would be appreciated..

coke works really well to remove rust soak over night and come back to bright and shiny - it's the phosphoric acid that does the trick

Thanks for the tip! I'll give it try. Quite a few nuts and bolts have seen better days. :-/

nuts and bolts?? replace them you tight git! bolts get stressed and when you put them back in they are then prestressed and not too clever for a few shekels you will have peace of mind - oh and don't go apeshit with the locktite!!! What a Face

Haha! You're damn right I'm tight! I do everything on a shoestring! or less if I can help it!
It's actually not looking too bad after the powdercoating etc,
Only major rust is on the centre stand. so I'll give that some attention at some point.

However, The wafer thin paint on the engine (metalic dark grey) is flaking off. Does that need special paint? Heat proof? Could be difficult getting a colour match..

best is ceramic coating it but yep it'll need to be some form of heat proof stuff, have a look at this link and see what the guy has done and see if you can meet the mark What a Face http://www.wilddog.za.net/forum/index.php?topic=35075.0

Thanks for that but I'm not wanting to strip the thing to bits! Taking the engine out is pretty major and it's not a job I fancy tackling to be honest.
At least not yet...
I think I'll just touch up the messy bits. Maybe just some hammerite smooth paint will do for now!!
